The Italian Company of the 2nd Polish Corps

The first 2nd Polish Corps units reached Taranto in the south of Italy on 21 December 1943, with the last ones arriving in the city on 15 April 1944. In total, this major operational unit of the Polish Armed Forces in the West numbered, at that time, 45,000 soldiers. In Italy, it was subordinated to the British 8th Army which made part of the 15th Army Group of the Allied forces.
